Mr. Juan J. Jaramillo-Medina founded J. Jaramillo Insurance (JJI), an independent insurance Managing General Agent, in the spring of 2009 with the commitment of his executive team. He acts as its Chief Executive Officer and currently leads a group of over 70 insurance professionals that converge to a clearly defined organizational purpose.

Mr. Jaramillo has over 30 years of insurance expertise and has collaborated with primary insurers and Managing General Agents in New York and London. Earlier in his career, he worked with General Accident Insurance Company, one of the foremost global insurers at that time, in New York and later in Puerto Rico. This first-hand experience in the key insurance markets of the world enabled him to analyze the tendencies, development and behavior of the insurance business in Puerto Rico, the United States and globally. Soon after and up to date, he has focused on the general agents segment. Prior to founding JJI, Mr. Jaramillo spearheaded the direction of a local general agent administration and marketing operations with full accountability for the development and implementation of commercial strategies for the P&C and L&H product lines.

He is recognized as a dynamic, results-oriented leader with a strong track record of performance. In 2005, he served as the youngest president to be elected of the General Agents Association of Puerto Rico. Later in 2006, Mr. Jaramillo was appointed by the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico to participate in a Working Committee established to review the Insurance Code of Puerto Rico.

Continuing to lay the foundations for future success, Mr. Jaramillo has led the firm to outstanding achievements, including Managing General Agent of the Year by MAPFRE Group in Puerto Rico, acquiring this great recognition three times in the first four years of the firm. Also, Mr. Jaramillo has built alliances and partnerships with recognized leaders in the insurance industry, including Popular Insurance, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Banco Popular of Puerto Rico (BPOP).

Mr. Jaramillo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management from the University of Miami and graduate studies –Diploma in Risk Management and Insurance (DRI)– from The College of Insurance in New York. He is also a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and a candidate for the Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
